Long Commutes Drive Out Passion for Politics

If you’re someone with a long commute to work, you might understand. You spend a lengthy amount of time in your car to report to your duties at work, which can take a lot out of you. After all, driving can be tiring! But you do it because you get a reward: your paycheck. Although your job may be rewarding, your commute might not. Often times while in a vehicle for an extended period of time, you might lose your “drive” for much else. A good majority of us just tune into the radio while we drive. In fact, I find that listening to a...

Avoidable Accidents Prompt Calls for New Distracted Driving Laws

We all know that drunk driving is one of the leading causes of avoidable accidents in the world. However, distracted driving can be just as bad, if not worse. Talking on a cell phone while driving, even using a hands-free device, can cause you to drive just as bad as if you were drunk. That’s not even getting started on the dangers of texting and driving, which is arguably one of the worst things you could do behind the wheel. Once a relative rarity, more and more states are enacting laws against distracted driving. Maryland is set to...

Excuses People Give for Breaking Traffic Laws

Ever been pulled over? Most all of us have. Whether or not we receive a traffic violation after seeing those flashing red and blue lights, we normally have our excuses ready for when the police officer comes to the side of our car door and trust me, they’ve heard them all. Some people try to be funny, several try to flirt their way out (at least in the movies they do. I’m not positive if this happens in real life), while others are being completely serious. However, breaking the law is still breaking the law! Here are some serious and...

Iowa Seeks App to Stop Texting and Driving

Soon to come in Iowa, teens will now be telling their friends they are 2BZ4U (which is text lingo for “too busy for you”) before they get in the driver’s seat and will continue texting @TEOTD (at the end of the day). Although the wait might seem 4EAE (forever and ever) for the receiving recipient, many lives could be saved. This is all due to a new smartphone application the Iowa Department of Transportation plans to develop. The Department of Transportation, or DOT, is calling their application “TXTL8R,” meaning “text later.”...

Weirdest Traffic Laws (A-C)

Keeping up with different state laws can be as difficult as “Keeping up with the Kardashians”—they’re a little wacky and sometimes you can’t understand them, but all in all they can be fairly entertaining! For example, did you know that in Alabama you aren’t able to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time? Apparently Georgia thought this was a smart law to carry over because in their state, you may not have ice cream in your back pocket, but only if it is Sunday. My first thought: why would anyone carry ice cream...

Dealing with Aggressive Drivers

Dealing with Aggressive Drivers

We’ve all dealt with them on the roadways. Whether or not we’re driving, they’re hard to overlook. They weave in and out of traffic, lay their horn down on other cars, tailgate those who drive the posted speed limit (or slightly under), and even throw items at other cars. Yup, you guessed it, the insane in the membrane aggressive drivers. They come from all over; no state or country is excluded from their menacing ways of operating a motor vehicle. So, how do we deal with them? Your first reaction may be to do exactly as they are doing....

America’s Worst Drivers

Many of us love them or are drawn to them with wandering eyes: the big suburban-metropolitan areas, where the grass is concrete and streets are towered by the tallest of buildings. Regardless of their attraction to many, you can’t always escape the people that occupy them. I’m sure you’ve seen the movies where those big city folk get caught in the pressures of their own version of the jungle. Between the ruckus and stress of being in a largely populated area, it’s been known to affect the way we drive. With more active drivers comes...

Indiana Puts a Halt on Vanity License Plates

They’re amusing, they’re personal to each driver, and they entertain others while sitting in traffic. You guessed it: vanity license plates. I’ve seen many in my day. Personally, I find vanity license plates quite entertaining whilst sitting in the passenger seat, especially during those long trips; they keep my mind active without having to read a 300 page book. I’ve often times sat bewildered at what someone is trying to say to me, but more times than not, I chuckle when I do figure it out. However, according to the State of Indiana,...

Car Collector Appreciation Day

Collections show our true passions for materialistic, yet beautiful, items. While certain people pride themselves in their collections of stamps or key chains, others show their personalities through sayings on different mugs from their travels or different types of bottles. For those who have the big bucks, however, they are able to afford a type of collection that most people would die for: cars. As a collector, the more items you get (whatever they may be) takes time, patience, enthusiasm, and a lot of heart. Once you have built up your...
