Holiday Shopping List for Teen Drivers

Dec 17

Sometimes teens can be the most difficult people to shop for; they change what they want to wear within ten minutes of having their outfit on, alter what profession is in their future at least once a month, and are just unpredictable as a whole—how can you even keep up with what they want for the holidays? Well, as they get into their driving years and have a car that is accessible to them, ideas for gifts they not only think are cool but would be extremely beneficial to them have opened up! From helping young drivers get from place to place with a gas card or with giving them the latest car accessory, the teen in your life will love their gift that much more if it goes with their car.

Electronics

Do you have a teen that is not into the latest fashion, but the latest gizmos and gadgets? Why not get them an innovative gift to match their personality! Teenagers and young adults who love tinkering will love these car accessories!

Remote Car Starter. With this nifty gift idea, your young adult can get their car warmed up in this cold winter weather from the porch; no need to even step into or very close to the car! A remote car starter can also be the perfect gift for those who tend to lose things (such as a key to the car) as long as they keep this starter in a safe place!

Car locator. So maybe your teen doesn’t just lose their key, but perhaps they lose their car in a crowded parking lot (after all, not only the holidays keep the malls crowded, but the weeks following for those gift exchanges!). With a car locator, they will be able to get out of the crazy mall parking lots quicker and home safe!

Global Positioning System, a.k.a a GPS device. As new drivers, it is hard to know where everything is or how to get somewhere. Perhaps your teen knows where their doctor’s office is, but doesn’t know how to get there. Yes, with Internet technology today printing out directions is very easy, but when driving (especially those new drivers) something as simple as reading directions from a piece of paper can be very distracting. Getting a GPS is a trendy and helpful gift and can help prevent distracted driving. Your young driver will arrive safely to their destination with one of these!

Vehicle Battery Chargers. We’ve all been there before: sitting in the car listening to music and then you hear your car battery slowly fade. For new drivers who may not have the infamous AAA, the best gift they can have are these vehicle battery chargers! That way, they are able to at least come home before needing to call a tow truck!

Bluetooth/Hands-Free Devices. With Generation Y texting and calling perhaps more than anyone, it is important that they are as safe as possible while driving on the roads. With hands-free devices, they will be able to keep their concentration on the road and not take their hands off the wheel!

Car Accessories

Trunk Organizers. Being messy isn’t the greatest thing in the world, but a lot of the time it is pretty inevitable. Keep your teen’s car clean with a trunk organizer! With a cleaner and well-organized car, their friends will appreciate not having to be squished in the back set.

Bike Racks. For those adventurous teens that love being outdoors, keep them just as active even though they now have mobile transportation! With the gift of a bike rack, they will be able to bring their bicycle to the beach with them or be able to explore trails they have yet to ride on!

Seat Covers. Most the time, teens can only afford an older car and the seats are anything but beautiful; grab them a seat cover! There are tons of different designs already out there as well as places that will customize a seat cover to make it perfect for your teen! If they are fortunate enough to have a newer car, seat covers can still make the car better fit the personality of the growing young adult!

Floor Mats. Just being able to drive as a young adult is a glorious gift, and what better way to let your teen care for their car then to help keep their floors clean? With floor mats, they are the perfect gift for showing personality and to keep the floor of the car clean.

Steering Wheel Covers. Not only can floors and seats become anything but pleasant over time, but so can the steering wheels. To further their individuality, a steering wheel cover will be perfect to help them create their car into something that represents who they are and keep their steering wheel intact for longer!

Extras

Gas Cards. The gift of learning to drive has already been accomplished, now the only thing for teens is getting to their destination. What better way to help them get out of the house then by providing them with a gas card?!

Teen Driving Education Course. Does your teen have a car, but is still in the process of learning how to drive? Then www.californiateendriving.com or www.olts.com is the perfect place for you too look at a great gift for your growing child! Here they will learn all the fundamentals of driving safely and learn the rules of the road.

I noted with interest while visiting Tucson, Ariz., this summer that in their public transportation system, each bus has a front-loading bicycle rack to accommodate the two-wheeling segment of the population. A bike-friendly city such as Fort Lauderdale would be well served by equipping Broward County Transit buses with bike racks.^
